Connie Blokkum is a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) with a Master's of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati in Midwifery. She is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, IBCLC. Connie's midwifery clients are low risk healthy moms and babies. She is one of three midwives who own the Katy Birth Center. She commits to provide technically excellent, gently encouraging services so that the mother's goals are met. Her midwifery care maintains standards of obstetrical practices while women are given time and a holistic approach in their care. Maintaining a healthy life style of diet and exercise with complimentary alternative therapies is encouraged for all women. She strives to live up to a statement Mother Teresa said, "Let no one come to you without leaving better and happier."
Connie has dedicated over 27 years of combined experience working with mothers and babies. She began working after nursing school in medical surgical nursing. Since 1985 she has worked exclusively with mothers and babies in the newborn nursery, the neonatal intensive care unit, as a lactation consultant and presently as a Certified Nurse Midwife in an out of hospital setting at the Katy Birth Center or family home.
Her career took a new path in 2000 when she became the lactation counselor for Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital and started their first lactation program. She received her IBCLC "International Board Certified Lactation Consultant" certification in 2002 and continues as a Registered Lactation Consultant.
In 2003 she left the hospital environment and began private practice Lactation Consultation and attending home births with a Midwife, Cathy Rude as Cathy's labor/birth assistant. In 2010 she graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Masters of Nursing degree (MSN) in Midwifery. Connie has given support in labor for over 350 births which includes her own midwifery clients.
Connie is a mother of 3 wonderful adults, Eric, Nell, and Evan and married to her husband Dag for 30 + years. She is a Believer in Jesus Christ as the way, truth and life. Her hobbies include keeping fit, cycling and hanging with her grandson. She strives to practice what she preaches in making wise choices in eating, exercise and growing spiritually.
